The exchange was founded by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam in 2012 and is based in San Francisco, California. They focus on the US market, however, the company currently operates in 31 countries and offers storage of bitcoins in 190 countries around the world.
It became known in spring 2019 that Gatecoin exchange would stop its operation. It was stipulated by the decision of the Hong Kong court after quite a long attempt to recover lost funds. The loss amounted to $2 mln.
