In this article, we will compare two exchanges that can be easily called leaders in the industry. These exchanges are Binance and Gate.io. Binance is famous as the top exchange in terms of liquidity and a huge set of supported tokens. Gate.io supports nearly 5 fold more tokens. As for trading volume, Gate.io occupies one of the top 10 positions although it has only 10% of Binance's liquidity. Speaking of features available on these exchanges, we can firmly say that both platforms are versatile allowing their users to enjoy multiple ways of earning via cryptocurrencies. What Is Binance?

Binance is the crypto exchange that leads globally in terms of liquidity with around $10 billion traded daily as of June 10, 2022. The closest rival, Coinbase, is trading "only" $1.5 billion a day.

The leading position of Binance was cemented by competitive fees, a wide yet classy selection of altcoins, a diverse set of features, and the trustworthiness of the platform. 

The exchange was launched in 2017 in Hong Kong. The exchange CEO is Changpeng Zhao aka CZ. Currently, the platform is international although in a number of countries its use is forbidden. USA, Germany, and Great Britain are only a few countries where you won't be able to trade on Binance. 

Speaking of features, we must say that Binance seems to really care about being as universal as possible. 

Binance supports crypto-to-crypto spot trading. If you don't have crypto coins yet, you can easily buy them right there, on Binance, via a credit card, wire transfer, SEPA, etc. Binance supports a Euro balance feature so you can top up your Binance account in EUR. 

On top of spot trading, Binance provides such features as margin trading, Binance Convert (instant fee-free swap at fixed price), diverse derivatives trading set of features (including futures and perpetual desks), a P2P trading platform, Binance Liquidity Swap (which allows you to farm BNB rewards), fan tokens marketplace, NFT marketplace, staking platform, saving platform, investment solutions, a vault, mining pool, payment operator (Binance Pay), crypto loans, Binance Visa card, etc. 

As you can see, Binance is easily the most full-featured crypto trading platform as of today. Of course, some platforms have features that are not available on Binance but no platform offers this many features. Another notable feature is that Binance offers a solid base of crypto-related educational materials.

What Is Gate.io?

Gate.io is one of the oldest crypto exchanges. It was launched in China in 2013. Initially, the exchange was called Bter.com but had to rebrand itself after the fiat-to-crypto trading ban by the Chinese government in 2017. That's when the name Gate.io emerged. 

In the following years, the exchange gained high popularity even though some criticized its interface as not beginner-friendly. The 24h liquidity on Gate.io is so high that it grants the exchange a stable position among the top 10 exchanges by daily trading volume.

The exchange remains unregulated which draws reasonable doubts if it's not a scam. Moreover, some industry observers have already dismissed Gate.io as a trustworthy trading platform after a series of users complained that they cannot withdraw funds from Gate.io. However, the reasons behind these problems are still not clear. So we cannot firmly state that Gate.io is an outright scam organization.

The first feature of Gate.io that comes to mind is the incredibly wide selection of altcoins which amounts to over 1,400 assets. We can't say that you will find any token you can think of, but for sure you will find all the notable tokens on Gate.io. The top coins can usually be traded against Tether (USDT). Trading fees collected on Gate.io are far from being low although some of the top exchanges charge even more. Both takers and makers on Gate.io lose 0.2% in commissions.

Apart from crypto-to-crypto spot trading, Gate.io users can buy cryptocurrencies for fiat money. You can do that via bank transfer, by credit card, or via the P2P platform. Margin trading and instant swaps are also in place. Also, you can trade leveraged ETF tokens. Another nice feature that can attract experienced traders is a derivatives trading platform that allows trading crypto futures and the use of other trading options (Delivery, Options, Warrant, and CBBC). 

Also, you can earn via investing and hodling, staking, crypto lending, product pack investments, etc. More than that, you can take crypto loans, participate in liquidity mining, provide a single-asset vault, buy a cloud mining contract, and perform other actions to earn money. Another notable feature is copy trading (or social trading). You can subscribe to the strategies of trading experts and automatically copy the trades they make and receive the same returns as they do. An NFT market is available, too.

Supported coins (as of June 2022)

In terms of the number of supported coins Gate.io dramatically exceeds Binance. Surely, that's an advantage for Gate.io users. The only possible way to think of such huge altcoins selection as a drawback is by saying that on Gate.io you have a bigger risk of meeting a worthless coin. However, better diversity brings more opportunities.

Liquidity-wise, Binance outperforms Gate.io as it outperforms any other exchanges and even all of the rest of the top 10 exchanges' liquidities combined. However, it's worth saying that Gate.io's daily trading volume is close to the level of any top 5 exchange. It means that Gate.io's liquidity is one of the biggest on the market so we can't criticize it by this factor.

Fees

Binance charges low fees, hands down. Trading and withdrawal fees collected by Binance are lower than on many other centralized exchanges, huge and small ones. More than that, the more you trade the less you pay in fees. The fees collected by Gate.io are 2 fold higher. We can't say anything to defend the Gate.io fee structure. 

Security

Both exchanges provide enough features to keep the users' funds safe. Binance and Gate.io are no strangers to hacking and stealing, however, both incidents left no bitterness as users were compensated and the security level was elevated. Probably, we should outline Binance as a safer platform as some of the Gate.io issues with withdrawals are not addressed well by the company.

Features

Both exchanges are the champions when it comes to additional features. Binance and Gate.io provide users with all kinds of earning via cryptocurrencies. The sets of features have differences, however, in general, you will easily be satisfied by the set of functions on both exchanges.

Availability

Both exchanges are not available in a number of countries. If we speak about specific regions, then we must admit that Binance is not the best choice for the EU residents while Gate.io is not available in some of the Latin American countries.
